As the results across Malaysia slowly tallied in for the night with much suspense and intrigue, the incumbent Barisan Nasional finally reached the magical number (112 seats) that it need to form a simple majority in Dewan Rakyat sometime around 1+am and ultimately came to a halt at 133 seats around 2+am which is seven seats lesser than it achieved last time in 2008. As for Pakatan Rakyat with its strong boorish showing in much of its two week campaign with the battle cry of "Ubah" and "Ini Kali Lah!" and actually going reasonably neck and neck for most of the election night has to settle with 89 seats in Dewan Rakyat which is an improvement from previous election with net gain of seven seats but still fell well short of the magic number it need to instigate regime change they have always longed for since 2008.
1) "You're going back to vote? Me too!"
With the unprecedented 84.8% turnout rate which is the highest turnout rate ever in the history of Malaysian general election and certainly an reasonably impressive number for a nation that didn't impose compulsory voting, all 11,257,147 (out of 13,268,002) of us voters that exercised our right and duty should really gives ourselves a collective pat in the back for our enthusiasm in participating in one of the many way in nation building.
There are plenty of factors which can be attributed to the significant rise in turnout rate, one of which is certainly related to rapid dissemination of knowledge, information and awareness through the ever wide-reaching internet through social medias with viral sharing of news and user-generated contents by the simple action of clicking and twiddling fingers on smartphone and tablets. All players in this election regardless of competing political parties or NGOs did their part as well in engaging the voters regarding the importance of voting especially by conducting mass voter registration drives for the new and unregistered voters as well as heightening public discourse regarding various issues and policies that actively shapes the voters' daily life. Furthermore, extra flights and promotions by all airlines in Malaysia (although it does reeks of profiteer in some way, riding on the towering enthusiasm to vote) does made the trip back home regardless of within Malaysia or overseas much more plausible and convenient.
Last but not least, due credit must be given to Election Commission/Suruhanjaya Pilihanraya despite its perceived shortcomings, misgivings and ineptitude for implementing a couple of reforms from allowing overseas Malaysians that are not students or diplomats for advance voting (still can be made convenient of course), introduction of indelible ink to prevent repeat voting (ah, but more on that later.) as well as actively engaging with voters with all the things they should know about election such voting procedures and running the election tirelessly day and nights even before the polling day itself. Regardless of the reforms are still quite a shy away from sweeping improvement, I do believe it does improve the public's impression towards the integrity and trust of the voting process. Considering how seemingly resistant and begrudging it was for EC/SPR to change, every little counts.
2.) Leveling the Playing Ground.
With commendable improvement and showing, the current standing of Pakatan Rakyat with 89 seats has certainly indicates that the two-party/coalitions system in which either coalitions has reasonable prospect of forming a government (but of course, Pakatan Rakyat being the up-and-comin' hopeful are much more enthusiastic about it) had indeed begin maturing and taking shape.
Pakatan Rakyat's attempt to gain headway into states which has been long-touted as fortress of Barisan Nasional especially in Johore (by shifting various top brass and strategist down south with the highlight of course is the showdown of titans between DAP's long time stalwart Lim Kit Siang against BN-UMNO Johore's Menteri Besar that was moved to federal parliamentary seat of P162: Gelang Patah with mission to retain it. The bet by DAP paid off and Lim Kit Siang wins with a comfortable 14.762 majority), Pahang (much to the chagrin of Adnan Yaakob, the arrogant twat of an Menteri Besar that vowed to cut his ear of if Liow Tiong Lai lost in P.089 Bentong. Good (or bad?) thing Liow Tiong Lai did won but by a slim margin of 379 and after much drama and controversy. In another story, Saifuddin Abdullah, the few reasonable reformist faces in BN-UMNO lost in P088: Temerloh to PAS thus depraving UMNO of a sensible minister candidate. Then again, he would've been appointed as senator by federal government anyway and the winner in Temerloh does intend to work closely on amicable term with him so he probably be around a little longer.), Sarawak (the urban areas has finally falls into the hand of DAP by defeating long-time incumbent stalwarts of BN-SUPP such as P196: Stampin which happens to be my constituency and YB Yong Khoon Seng has finally got the retirement he wanted after being defeated by greenhorn Julian Tan (DAP) and victory of the previous 2011 Sarawak State Election hopefuls namely Alice Lau (DAP) in P211: Lanang and Dr. Michael Teo (PKR) in P219: Miri.) and Sabah (the defeat of Bernard Giluk Dompak, chairman of BN-UPKO in P174 Penampang and VK Liew, chairman of BN-LDP in P.186: Sandakan by PKR and DAP challengers respectively).
While Pakatan Rakyat's (especially DAP's) gain is somewhat dulled by their failure of retaining Kedah (which has swing back to BN after a lacklustre term by incumbent PR state government dominated by PAS resulting in losing grip of they hold originally both parliamentary and state assembly seats) as well as prospect that didn't materialized in Perak (BN still manage to modestly increase its majority by one state assembly seat bringing the number to 31-28) and Negeri Sembilan (BN still maintain a reasonably healthy majority.) resulting in PAS and PKR being the Achilles heels in the PR trio by losing seats, nonetheless they have made reasonable gain overall thus cementing the two party system the longed for in Malaysia's political scene and forming a formidable challenger against (or even defeat) the establishment BN in years to come.
3.) Let's Bury'em!
Both the bigoted racists amphibians, the head-honcho and poster-boy of Malay-Supremacist mockery of an NGO PERKASA namely Ibrahim Ali and Zulkifli Nordin has been soundly rejected by electorates of respective parliamentary seats of P022: Pasir Mas in Kelantan and P108: Shah Alam by a healthy margin thus denying them the chance of poisoning the august chamber and country as a whole even further with their ceaseless bigotry as well as giving a middle finger to their patron and mentor, Tun Dr. Mahathir who just refuse to retire gracefully, insisting of making a cacaphony. While I am sure this won't be the last of them (oh god forbid), but at least we can be sure that they won't be afforded much publicity as much as last time with them being booted out from the chamber into the wilderness.
In a related story, Ali Rustam (BN-UMNO), Malacca's a clown of a Chief Minister who enjoys making spectacle of himself and Malacca with publicity stunts and novelty projects that draw ire and ridicule and who were also tasked to retain parliamentary seat of P.137: Bukit Katil was soundly defeated by a PKR newcomer which results in an outburst decrying ungrateful voters and backstabbers (with particular focus...on Chinese for no apparent reason.) that ignore the "good deeds" (quite a stretch) he had done to Malacca for the past 13 years. Its rather curious how did he managed to stay around for 13 years despite his clownish antics but perhaps the people of Bukit Katil (and Malacca by extension. Or even his own colleague perhaps) has had enough of Ali Rustam and make use of his shift from state to parliamentary seat to end his political career swiftly. Hopefully his face that has littered around Malacca old city quarter will be tuned down soon enough with his demise in Malacca's politic.
Now that I have cleared the good stuff, let's talk about the BAD and UGLY.
4.) The
With the news of indelible ink that is actually can be remove easily making round as early as the advance/postal voting by the army and police forces on 30 April, the introduction of indelible ink for the first time in Malaysian history has off for a rocky start. The news has certainly fueled the empirical zeal within every single voters in Malaysia to put the indelible ink to the test of detergent, washing liquid and soap as soon as they step out of the polling station on the polling day itself and when in reach of any cleaning materials. My gut reaction to the round of pictures spilled all over Facebook was "WHY DID YOU DO THAT FOR, NUMBNUTS? Could you just wait a little longer for the ink to dry?". It kind of defeat the purpose of indelible ink if you want to remove it immediately after voting just to vindicate your personal bias that EC has failed in doing its duty again.
At the same time however, I decided to do my own personal observation of how long can the indelible ink last on my own finger especially since I did saw the officers in my polling station shake the bottle well (which was the excuse/reason used by EC regarding the reason why indelible ink failed because lack of shaking causes uneven distribution of silver nitrate in the ink solution and the media does have conflicting account of that on how durable indelible ink was during the advance voting on 30 April) before daubing it on voters' fingers. I am interested to know how long can it last without deliberate and rigourous intervention just by going through my daily routine activity of bathing and washing.
5.) The Curious Case of Chua Lai Fatt and Other Stories.
Just a few hours into the polling day, a series of pictures has gone viral on social media claiming it as the crowning evidence of BN government's foul play by planting "illegal immigrants" assuming fake identity or instant citizenship by allegiance to BN. It looks rather convincing at first as someone actually managed to get a scan of his IC which depicted a man of Indian ethnicity professing a Chinese name as well as someone taking pictures of him (from the position of the camera, definitely by the party agent within the polling station) voting.
But there's a catch.
Chua Lai Fatt despite being an Indian ethnicity professing a Chinese name is indeed a bona fide Malaysian. According to people who actually knows him, it just so happened that he's an adopted son (presumably orphan baby) of a Chinese family and he does know how to speak Hokkien dialect fluently. Only after several hours of pictures going viral and him possibly being harassed at that point time, a clarification has finally issued by people who knows him personally that he can clear himself of the wrong accusation of being a Bangla assuming false identity. Apparently there are plenty of people out there who just failed to grasp the idea of adoption of children of different ethnicity. In fact, the party agent who took picture in the polling station when they're supposed to be on duty crosschecking the electoral roll has failed in his duty for circulating lies as well as breaking several regulation regarding the usage of mobile phone and recording device in polling station.
While Chua Lai Fatt is lucky enough to have afforded clarification there and then before the fake accusation gone out of control, others bona fide Malaysians who were mistaken as "phantom voter" were not so lucky. Fueled by irrational paranoia and unverified rumours, self-appointed and self-righteous vigilante watchdogs armed with camera phones sprung up across any polling stations (mostly West Malaysia as usual) suspected of being targeted by strategic planting of "phantom voters" which of course degenerated into uncontrollable lynch mob enforcing racial profiling, pouncing on anyone who has different shades of brown and black, manhandling them by demanding the surrender of their IC or forcing them to sing Negaraku and recite Rukun Negara (which by the way, not even many Malaysians can remember all five of them!). Some of it even degenerate into violence by beating up those who failed to pass the lynch mob's "identification test", took voyeuristic videos of it and upload it immediately on to Social Media, proclaiming it as "the victory of the Rakyat (I hate how this word has been overused by everyone to justify mass support) against dirty tricks of Barisan Nasional hurrdurr" demanding it to be go viral. There's one case that involve the lynch mob surrounding a bus suspected of ferrying "phantom voters" and beating up everyone of them. (As the news goes, the instigator has been caught and will be charge for criminal act).
I can only watch in absolute horror and disgust of these "vigilante justice" being meted out there and then to suspected "phantom voters" and how many of supposed "friends" whom I thought should have better judgment (clearly, they are not.) going wax lyrical and glorified such vigilante justice by making it viral. I just can't find myself empathized with the vigilante watchdogs' justification for their overzealous pursuit of phantom voters. Any wrong accusation even if its just one that has gone viral will and has indeed caused untold damage to Malaysian democracy as a whole, equal in magnitude as whatever dirty trick BN has in their sleeves. All I can see in them are not courage, intelligence and justice but xenophobia, paranoia and lunacy. What makes us in anyway different than BN if we too are susceptible to xenophobia which is equally heinous as entrenching racism. Even if it's a successful catch, can we treat them with a bit more tact and dignity that a human being deserve? In fact, it's because we treated them like cheap subhuman suitable only for menial job and hard labour that makes them susceptible to BN's temptation (if of course there's solid proof.) If I there's anyone I would like to pinpoint for this mass hysteria is Haris Ibrahim of ABU for among the earliest to issue ominous multilingual warning to all migrant workers.
Speaking of proof, I still found the "evidence" (such the flight manifests, photos of lines of suspected migrant from airports etc) used to purport BN's dirty trick of bringing in phantom voters has to be taken with massive sacks of salt because none of them really provided any solid context which allows sensible judgment of plausibility. Take for example one stupid user-generated picture claiming 60,000 phantom voters will be brought into Malaysia within the span three days which is mathematically implausible (luckily I have a calculator with me) considering the capacity of planes available in MAS and AirAsia's fleet (they're business. They cannot afford idle plane sitting on tarmac doing such bidding), flight and turnaround time in order to ferry that much of people in such short time span. That picture can be debunked if people spent a bit more time to prove. Then there's the intercepted email between Airasia's exec as well as the flight manifest which again cannot be proven even by myself because the lack of context (of course, the conspiracy theorists would have justified it as "it's supposed to be secret. Of course there's no context." Bah. Then Tengku Adnan, UMNO Sec-Gen claimed that it was chartered by them to fly back "Friends of BN". Geez, I could use that free flight tickets you know. Oh well, I am not exactly Friends of BN anyway.). All the people have is the announcement by Anwar Ibrahim, the long time
In the end, I am still waiting for the evidence that Anwar claimed to be true instead of letting false rumours to continue to blew into full blown, explosive paranoia.
6.) The Black(out) Magic and Mysterious Flying Ballot Boxes (and Other Stories).
Let's start with the rumours of blackouts across various vote tallying centers. Blackout seems to be among the more popular ways of BN/EC's boxes dirty tricks in which they perform magical switcheroo as the light goes off either by addition or removal of ballot boxes (BULLSHIT. Each constituency is allocated with a fix number of ballot boxes.) or altering the numbers of the official tallying forms or Borang 14 (probably...but still bullshit). In fact, the prevalence of blackout rumour even in the a couple of previous elections seems to suggest some sort of veracity of this dirty trick. The one particular parliamentary constituency which saw the rumour going the most virulent is P089: Bentong which saw the showdown between incumbent Minister of Health Liow Tiong Lai (BN-MCA) vs. Wong Tack (DAP) of the Anti-Lynas LAMP activist. It was a result that's too close to call with counting and recounting last well into the election night and when the result has finally officiated with Liow Tiong Lai wins with a slim margin of 379, netizens (PR supporters) who wish more titans to be slayed in this election immediately went BONKERS in which their immediate gut reactions are to 1) SHARE whatever "evidence" (or unverified shaky mobile phone footage as I called it) of blackout on the social media and 2) SPAM Tenaga Nasional Berhad's Facebook page or whatever customer service outlet decrying them as "collaborators of corrupted regime."
Then the sun rises, various detailed personal accounts of what actually happened on the ground in Bentong has begin to surface with almost each of them dispelled the rumours of blackout in the vote tallying center with one particular statement stood out the most: the newly minted Pahang State Assemblyman for N34: Ketari, CC Lee (DAP) which is one of the state assembly seats under Bentong hence mostly likely has stayed through the night with his team has came out to condemn the irresponsible viral sharing of blackout rumour. As for TNB whom obviously have the overview of the greater electrical distribution network than say, rumour-mongerers, confirmed that power supply was in fact, normal. In other word, the rumour of blackout in Bentong is as good as a BIG FAT LIE except its a BIG FAT LIE feeble minded fools who were not on the scene keen to believe in.
(While I do admit that I cannot vouch whether other vote tallying centers have suffered blackout or not because I haven't seen any detailed account about it on the net at constituencies that has alleged to have happened such as P150 Batu Pahat (PKR win by 1732 majority) or P158 Tebrau (BN-MCA win by 1767 majority but its very likely it didn't happened either.)
Then there's this frankly absurd story about "ballot boxes being dropped from the sky from helicopter" happening at P062: Sungai Siput which conspiracy theorists claimed as "the length of BN/EC are willing to go to manipulate the election". Well, good thing I just happen to know someone, the longtime student activist aka active thorn against USM back then by pointing out fallings of the establishment LOUDLY working as a PACA at Sungai Siput for PSM (under PKR's flag) Dr. Michael Jayakumar who have kindly written his account of what actually happened: it's from polling stations located at inaccessible Orang Asli Settlements which closed earlier because of their small number of voters (and probably every voters in that station has voted) and it just so happened that that school field it chooses to land is the largest field open field available to fit for landing. Being a small plantation backwater, the ignorant sycophants fueled by rumour decided to mob the helicopter and policemen on site, threatening to destroying VALID VOTES from the Orang Asli Settlement and of course, sharing it indiscriminately without context on Facebook again. (Congratulation for 3G network to be working then?). It just simply unfathomable the length of people taken in by unverified rumours and false lies despite being equipped with bottomless pit of information namely internet.
Then there are these scuffles between mobs and policemen guarding various vote tallying centers with the mob trying to block vehicles ferrying ballot boxes to vote tallying centers that came over a little bit too late which arouses speculation of planting counterfeit ballots boxes to manipulate the electoral result. Then as usual, the mob were decrying "POLICE VIOLENCE OMG" and share more bleary pictures and videos as "evidence". The first thing the irate netizens and mobs need to remember is 1) EC doesn't really have their own vehicle per se and they have to rent/use other vehicle available so it wasn't much of stretch if they used car to transport ballots boxes (tell me if I am wrong though) 2) the number of ballot boxes has already been fixed and if there's any switcheroo happening, it would've been easily traceable 3) perhaps they really encounter delay in counting at their polling station before they head over to vote tallying center? Or the traffic was being held up so far from the polling station due to mobs that refuse to budge and disperse because of this baseless rumour? I don't know but I bet others don't know too. In any case, this is a sign of disconnection (and even misinformation due to round the minute news and tense atmosphere) between party agents/PACAs of what actually happening within the vote tallying center itself and public outside who were in the dark for most time.
Ah now the PACABAs (polling agents, counting agents and barung agents), volunteers from NGO/political parties appointed by EC to oversee the smooth running of the election as well as helping out whenever required. While their effort in ensuring the running of election as smooth as it did certainly warrants all sorts of praise and pride, there is a certain section of them, the pompous, moralistic, self-righteous type who seems to think too highly of themselves as "Guardian of Democracy" that "police" Election Commission from "doing any backdoor hanky-panky". With such a flawed logic and stereotype as a starting motivation for them to volunteer as PACABAs, they became needlessly rude, confrontational and uncooperative to EC officers on duty which in turn fuels the self-entitlement among the waiting voters, encouraging them too to be treat EC officer and police officers on duty like shite. What these type of people conveniently neglect however is that most EC officers are volunteers too, coming from the rank of teachers and local civil servants who were equally enthusiastic about contributing to the smooth running of election as the PACABAs. Sure they were given monetary allowance but it's just a small token of appreciation after toiling for weeks in advance and of course the whole polling day itself all the way to night while handling the likes of self-righteous twatamaboobs, PACABAs and voters themselves. There's no doubt that the interaction between PACABAs and EC officers/police has been amicable at most polling stations and some of those initially self-righteous boobs did learn to be a bit more humble as the days goes by working side by side with the officers, the few that remain as bastards as they are certainly affected the respectability of PACABA some way or the other.
On the lighter side of things, magical blackout has become a new buzzword on social media by going memetic with self-made Ragefaces and Exploitables depicting miraculous and implausible turnaround of event after blackout, some of which I do admit is pretty hilarious.
7.) OMGWTFBBQ Democracy Is Dead. Save us, Obama/United States Department of Justice/Queen Elizabeth II/United Nation/DYMM Yang Dipertuan Agong/God/ALIEN etc.
As I was following the election result closely on both television and social media throughout the night, almost immediately after Barisan Nasional reaches the magic number of 112 that there's a deluge of black profile pictures smeared across my timeline (including my own elder brother for fuck sake. He didn't even bother register to vote in the first place!) "mourning the DEATH of democracy" with "BN has won again through foulplay! Another five years of HELL OMGWTFBBQ"...in which my gut reactions were: 1) in what way DEMOCRACY is DEAD? 2) how could you be so smug to think that Pakatan will win this time EVEN BEFORE THE OFFICIAL RESULT IS OUT? and 3) since WHEN the "victory of democracy" is predicated as Pakatan Rakyat's win and conversely, BN's win as "the death of democracy"? My opinion is that even without hanky-panky, Barisan Nasional would've win again with slightly lesser number of seats but still well above the magic number judging from the swing back of rural voters especially in Kedah which do saw increasing majority margin of BN incumbents. My question to them what makes you who switches to black profile representative of "RAKYAT" when you're comfortably twiddling away on your laptop, smartphones and tablet?
Then there's these as good as useless petitions such as Whitehouse.gov's We The People petitioning platform urging United States/Barack Obama, President of United States to "intervene" against "the mounting evidence of discrepancies in Malaysian 13th GE", ignoring the fact that We The People is a platform designed for AMERICANS (hence no luck for you, stupid Malaysians who signed.) to warrant an official response from departments or agencies (a hilarious example is the one about the construction of Death Star) or inclusion of discussion in the US Congress. Why would they even bother to interfere with an election occurring in some country in other continent as well as risking diplomatic faux-pas? In fact true to diplomatic protocol whenever there's an election, White House did congratulated Najib and BN for his election victory though not without a gentle reminder about reported discrepancies and hopefully there will be investigation into it. That's about it really the response you can get from United States. Plus, sharing this election is essentially giving Barisan Nasional cybertroopers' ammo in attacking Pakatan Rakyat claiming that Anwar is American stooge. So dear Pakatan supporters: if you wish to protect your DEAR LEADER, do not sign the petition and popularize it. Same thing could be said for the United Nation petition on Change.org and DoJ which again will only a get a diplomatic reply at most especially since Malaysia is relatively stable unlike other more turbulent regions which will definitely attract their attention.
Now let's move on to more local ground which is plea to DYMM Yang Dipertuan Agong and Rulers in each states (especially the front line one) to deny the winning BN government from sworn in and some of them even dare to share the LIE that Sultan of Perak and Terengganu has rejected an audience with BN claiming it as the King has spoken so don't give up. Well what happen for the next two days? Almost of them (no news from Terengganu yet) sworn in without any problem including Najib himself in front of DYMM YDPA or Mukhriz in front of HM Regent of Kedah. Being a constitutional rulers, they CANNOT reject a government that has already commanded the confidence of the legislative chamber (be it Dewan Rakyat or Dewan Undangan Negeri) and the most they can do (which did happen before in Perlis and Terengganu) is to reject the candidate for Menteri Besar but obviously this time, that didn't occur. What the public could really use these days is to have the thick Pengajian Am textbook shoved down their throat for being ignorant about the function of constitutional monarchy which means that royal cannot simply do whatever they want and has to act on advice at all time in order to avoid needless controversy to the institution.
8.) BUT the numbers! The numbers doesn't match!
The mathematically illiterate shares are among the easiest to be debunked. Here's some selected facts:
a) The total number of votes for parliament and state assemblies are indeed from each other simply because Sarawak didn't have its state election together with federal general election not to mention Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan has no state assembly which means population in area mentioned will only have to cast one vote that is for federal parliament. In doubt, check SPR's result page.
b) It is perfectly plausible for voters to cast differently in state and federal ballots (such as PR for state and BN for parliament or vice versa) so you cannot assume all the votes PR get in state seats within the parliamentary constituency is the same as total for parliament. Plus there's no way to determine the pattern aptly anyway so why bother doing this pointless assumption.
c) What's with the 1mil+ extra? That's because you use the wrong percentage to count, you dimwit. It's 84.8% officially. 80% is what mentioned in the media of the turnout rate as the day slowing coming to end.
d) P085: Pekan (the constituency) which happens to be Najib's seat is WAY larger than Pekan (the town) or Kuantan (P083 the constituency). Kuantan (the city) encompasses Kuantan (the contituency) and Indera Mahkota (P082 the constituency) which when add up would've reflected the population of Greater Kuantan conurbation and subsequently larger than Pekan (the town or the constituency) in population.
e) It's just a fucking misprint in the newspaper, you idjit. The only official result you can rely (even if you wish to deny it) on is SPR's.
and finally...
9.) Apa Lagi Cina Mahu?
...as brazenly brandished on the ever incorrigible and inflammatory Utusan Malaysia decrying the Chinese community in Malaysia as ungrateful lot despite much effort and concession by Najib as well as portraying Chinese community as the Fifth Column or the enemy within with malicious intent to destroy the majority Malay. It would've been dismissed (and rightfully should) as yet another scaremongering by Utusan if Najib didn't make the statement (immediately after the result is settled!) about attributing BN's lacklustre performance on "Chinese Tsunami" instead of you know, say MCA's utter PHAIL in public relation of trying to scare the voters with mudslinging and slander in all forms of media from newspaper to Google Ad pissing off the internet savvy urban middle class or the sinfully debauched 1Malaysia Charity Drives that gives away free food, beer and concerts in Penang that destroyed any slither chance whatsoever for BN Penang to reclaim Penang turning it to an even more bucolic fortress of Pakatan Rakyat state government going on their second term while forcing Penang BN Chief Teng Chang Yeow (BN-Gerakan) to resign immediately after their disastrous result.
Besides the basic mathematical implausibility for Pakatan Rakyat to win the election even when every single Chinese votes goes to Pakatan plus how do BN's internal research team can actually determine the voting pattern of every single Chinese votes that goes to Pakatan when even SPR themselves do not list racial percentage in the result which basically make Chinese Tsunami unverified GUESS, it's just too simplistic and naive for Najib to blame it on the "ungrateful' Chinese while ignoring the rest of Pakatan votes that does came from other communities regardless of their origin. The most we can reasonably and accurately guess is the growing rift between urban and rural sentiment in which Pakatan has become even more entrenched in urban areas while some swing back to BN has occurred in rural area, some with even higher majority.
It's almost as if Najib has forgo whatever facade he put up and trumpeted about for the pass few years about 1Malaysia and Wasatiyah in a sort of verbal tic. It will be an interesting time indeed on what's Najib's next move especially the formation of the new cabinet now that that shameless Chua Soi Lek of MCA announced that they will not participate in the government since "the Chinese has deserted and betrayed MCA and refused to participate in mainstream governance" basically reeking pity and some say (not verified) as maneuvering against Najib. I wasn't (and I am sure many Malaysian too) too concerned about the absence of Chinese representation in cabinet because if they really claimed to be a 1Malaysia government, they would've remain committed to their duty to ALL Malaysian and not just to advance one community's interest...which of course being thrown into limbo with Najib's real thought being out of the bag by defending Utusan Malaysia.
Meanwhile on the internet and real world, courageous and rational netizens has taken upon themselves to counter Utusan's scaremongering by personal account of their lives as well as posting pictures of harmonious grouping going around with placards proclaiming "Kita Kawan, Kita tidak Lawan" and other equally humanity reaffirming phrase and situations. Some of then has even taken on the lighter side of thing by answering tongue in cheek to Apa Lagi Cina Mahu on Tumblr. After all my grievance against irresponsble netizens, these are the things that I need in order to balance up my negative chis piling up in me and it is indeed most like that everything will be fine for the next five years and beyond.
-That's not all yet really so stay tuned for another brand new post talking about the Hmm and Huh or Thinking Post of Malaysia's 13th General Election.-
Epilogue: Dear friends in Facebook: I know I have pretty odious and condescending in most of my response to your share and I assure you it will be tone down as time goes by but PLEASE, do not irresponsibly click on that Share button which brings into question the cognitive faculty of your mind. You're more intelligent than that to think and digest a bit more. Please play your part in improving the collective intelligence of netizens and not ruining them and I will play mine.
