Prologue: The coming week is what I call climax of the semester. 307’s video subtitling report and presentation tomorrow (urm…progress is umm…nil?), 306E’s translation portfolio (20 translation work + portfolio itself) as well as pairworks (confirm nil). ZOMG Will I survive next week?
USM has been participating Earth Hour since 2009 and it’s going to be the same for year 2010. The only difference is the starting time, Earth Hour @ USM starts at 9pm instead of 8:30pm of the global campaign but still last for one hour.
The promotion campaign in USM a little…too subtle. And a little not lestari by using paper. But nevertheless, the MPP people is showing their enthusiasm (mestilah, chance to promo themselves) in Earth Hour when the YDPMPP, Wafi went around the campus with his motorcade, screaming into hailer/sirens and honking all the way to remind all the students to switch off their lights. I admit it’s an uphill task to remind the RST-ians (Restu Saujana Tekun) due to the sheer size of our hostel complex (six 10 floors blocks of hostel tower) but nevertheless have to salute them for at least trying to remind all of us. Anyway, so how was the response last night?
9:01pm. 1 minute into Earth Hour. A shot from my rooms window. Yup some lights are still on. Then I decided to take a short stroll around Tekun to see how much enthusiasm that all of us have for Earth Hour.
9:05pm. Hmm, looks like the Tekun male block is slowly getting into it. But still, some light here and there.
Tekun female block. Same as well.
Lights here and there but still at least more than half of them switch of their light.
The most impressive feat however has to be Saujana, the one and only all girls Desasiswa in USM. Here’s a shot of Saujana’s MO4 block aka Fortress on top of the hill. All most all but a few lights are switched off. Bravo for Puteri-Puteri Saujana!
Back to my room, I switched off my room’s light too for one hour. Here’s my room in dark with my laptop screen glowing as the only source of light in my room for one hour.
Me, onlining in the dark. this picture was taken using my laptop camera.
10:01pm and Earth Hour is over. Earth Hour Celebration: My room’s level: SUCCESS. lol. With that symbolic one hour over, all of us fall back to our usual daily, decadent routine. The End.
Just to wrap up this post, here’s the official global campaign ad for Earth Hour 2010. Pretty impressive to see various famous landmarks in cities across the globe switched off their lighting.
Epilogue: Just two more weeks and the final semester of my undergraduate life will over. But before that, must conquer the last wave of TSUNAMI of deadlines and events... Hopefully no casualties and everyone can go through it safely. WE SHALL OVERCOME TOGETHER!!!
