Prologue: It’s time to continue the thing matters right now for USM’s student! Raise your awareness, people. And ohh, beware of excessive sarcasm and cynicism as well as a very colorful usage of adjectives and expressions. You have been warned~~~~
Pre-Nomination Day (Before Monday 25 Jan 2010)
The campaign for election actually started right before the actual nomination on Monday 25 Jan, right at the night when Randau Pemimpin is going on taking the guise as ‘Appreciation for all the hardwork of Outgoing MPP’ by the ‘MPP Supporters Club’, complete with cheesy slogan, cheesy ball-polishing line, a stamp from HEP for some sense of legitimacy and the most importantly, that ever ubiquitous Aspirasi Universiti heart-logo.
And of course any flyers showing ‘appreciation’ will not complete without a complete listing of whatever the outgoing MPP supposedly done for the university community. Despite having some sense of legitimacy for having the stamp of approval, I was immediately left in dismay with the amount of glaringly obvious mistakes despite it was printed in BM. A main one is Dan dll. dll is a common shortform for ‘…dan lain-lain’ or …and so on. It is the extra Dan there that screw it up. Dan Dan lain-lain? Redundancy ALERT.
Meanwhile, finally a better poster to convey all the important dates instead of those inconspicuous/non-descript three piece of papers that was pasted on the softboard. But still, the amount of it was still clearly inadequate as it is not available on every floor and every softboard. Yet another showing of lack of enthusiasm by the university. And more spelling mistake: Sesi or Sessi? Please language user, follow the official DBP guideline!
Nomination Day (Monday 25 Nov 2010)
While most of the campus population remain oblivious regarding the whole ruckus which is campus election, the nomination day for campus election went on at Konkos which is almost like isolated from the rest of campus population hence remain unnoticed by the rest in campus and only attended by those players who wish or already dabbled in the politcal game of campus political and their fellow cronies. And my existence there is being that as well, as one of the supporter of nomination for Vincent. Vincent, when do you want to graduate?
Candidate Nomination Hall it is.
All the looks of the supporters and candidate etc etc.
A peek into the nomination hall. Each of the tables have four chairs, representing the candidate, second-ers of nomination and two supporter of nomination. I didn’t take any picture while I am in the hall with Vincent though by observing the general convention of no recording device within the nomination hall. Then again, I didn’t see any sign for it. Dang, should have did it.
The candidates, waiting for certify their official portrait that will be appear in the candidates poster/rosters.
Finally, a bigger banner for conveying information regarding the campus election. But seeing how it was flimsily hanged, complete with on unhanged rope in the middle somewhat confirms my suspicion that the university in unenthusiastic in promoting it…or there’re just physical limitation to hang at the Dewan Budaya Bus Stop.
Later that night, I went around RST and immediately I can sense something is already up: the individual campaign banner. It was hanged at the Restu’s PSEUDO-Bus stop…
…as well as the cafe (this was Saujana/Restu cafe). Oddly, Tekun cafe remain fairly untouched.
And my first flyer is from Vincent! I ROFLMAO-ed at the cheesiness of the slogan/nickname Abang 1Malaysia. Personally, 1Malaysia has been so over-used that it is totally cliche-ed and resembles USED CONDOM: Lack of flexibility and freshness besides out of used. And grr the word “Salam Aspirasi” irritates me to end, especially when the Vincent I know has been very ambivalent or even cynical about the whole campus election thing.
Some of his manifesto are good but I seriously doubt the generally oblivious/naive/apathetic campus population who usually have short attention span/temporary lapse of memory will read and digest all of it. As for speaker corner, you better be quick then once you are in because UKM and UM had already revived theirs already. Bring some sense of intelligence to the MPP, please!
First day of election campaigning (Tuesday 26 November 2010)
First thing that I saw when I left Tekun for my class: yet another ‘Deepest gratitude to the previous term of MPP’ banner by Tekun MPD, adorned with the personal portrait of the Tekun MPD chairman, Hafiz. Personality cult MUCH? Not too mention it was somewhat an eyesore by hanging a tad bit low.
Within one night, all these banners are up…above the jejantas bus-stop…
…all the way down to the Palapes Bus Stop
Banner knot FAIL. And hence forming another eyesore by blocking the walkway to the bus stop.
Along the main road right beside School of Biological Science.
More Vincent and…who care about him cos he is not from my school.
And on the small hill beside the DK STUVW parking lot. And more Vincent.
Yet another FAIL banner knot, yet another eyesore alert. Opps Wafi, opps.
The complete roster of the candidates for the General/Campus Wide Constituency Seats. Want me to point out who’s Pro-Aspirasi and Pro-Mahasiswa? Aspirasi – Abel Benjamin Lim, Ahmad Wafi, Bazilah, Muhamad Nur Hazim, Sivaneswari and of course Vincent. Pro-Mahasiswa: Lim Pui Hoon, Tan Choon Joo, and Musliha. The not exactly clear one and/or indies: Aishah and Afifah.
More posters along the walkway…
Right beside School of Humanities…
…and the SK bus stop.
While walking down from SoLLaT to Istimewa to meet my coursemates, went past School of Communication and saw all the two candidates competing for Mass Comm seat.
And here comes the torrential downpout later in the evening. It has been weeks since the last time Penang had a proper downpour of rain. It almost felt like the whole Penang Island is cursed to be the scorched! And I immediately snickered that all those paper banner and such will so be ruined by the rain. Schadenfreude for me.
More candidate which I think as an eye sore for hanging at tad bit low. Feel so tempted just to slice the whole banner off. Screw all the candidates for blocking my way and eyesight.
More, more MORE eye sore banner at Dewan Budaya. I can’t see the bus coming behind the banner, you IDIOTS.
Notice the usual 'Mansuhkan AUKU’ and ‘Hak Mahasiswa’ and somewhat inappropriate penning of the manifesto complete with glaring mistakes? Well, that’s Student Progressive Front, part of Pro-M to you! And to actually have the gall to list down an illegal organization (i.e. not registered/does not exist OFFICIALLY in USM)? I smell a deliberate attempt in misleading the public into believing that SPFUSM is officially recognized as a legitimate group while facts shows the opposite. Be careful what you are campaigning, fellow candidates…
Meanwhile, Pro-Aspirasi themselves launched their own subversive/underground campaign retaliating whatever statement that Pro-Mahasiswa in the likes of belittling, derogating and mud-slinging.
Enough with the derogating language, cheesy slogan and logo of love. Blergh. And stop claiming that you represented all USM-students by claiming that you represent the spirits of support and love towards the university. I love my university but not your hideous, low-life way of spreading hidden flyers. And also stop claiming that there isn’t a structure/organisation per se and Aspirasi functions as an mass, invisible, spontaneous grouping cos it means shooting your own two feet multiple times when you start chanting Aspirasi. Screw all politicking and power-mongering.
Meanwhile, another official statement is out regarding the campus election, in specific regarding who to vote during the election day. In this list are the general constituencies seat as well as the school seats that will be competing (which respectively Bio, Mass Comm, TI and Education)
While a outright majority of schools will have no competition what so ever with outright victory for as usual Aspirasi. The SoLLaT candidate are definitely 1st year junior since this year is the first time SoLLaT offered a major course.
Where to vote for respective Desasiswa as well as for PETAS.
The campaign rally later that night…
9:50 pm. The campaign rally is held at Padang Palapes, arguably the only place that can fit it a lot of people and car at the same time.
9:58 pm. No soul in sight aside those people in charge of the stage. As usual for Malaysian time.
The banner on the main stage. Again, sessi or sesi?
Cheh, they’re hiding behind the stage while the candidate gathers at the other side.
En. Marimuthu calling all candidate to come and register.
Solid proof that Pro-Aspirasi existed as an organization, with groups of people wearing same campaign uniform complete with cheesy love uni logo and ever cliche-ed 1Siswa1Malaysia logo.
Another shot. That Kari-Hwa Ree, the previous campus election (FAILED) general constituencies candidate hailing from School of Management brought along a hailer/siren/alarm as well as a band of his posse in a way similar to his part time job as a Digi Yellow Army/Promoter. Grr promoter. Feels like grinding them using meat grinder.
And the yellow army monkey’s cheered in unison. Idiots.
The first series of candidate are for school constituencies.
…forgot what did she say cos the monkeys, wolves and apes surrounding me keep on doing their silly job. Azhar, Rama, bob them all.
Nice green Kebaya/kurung you got there. Joining pantun competition perhaps?
Awkward hand gesture, awkward shoulder pad and obvious stage fright due to the animals in ruckus. Cos you are just not one of them.
Nice vest there Hamzah. But you are not Hamzah sendut and your effort to bring some sense of intelligence might fail in vain because the animal choose to remain their animalistic barbarianism.
Err…who are you? Non-descript again.
Nice checkered suits and songkok there. And good luck of being bebas before you were ripped into pieces by the animals.
SHUT THE FUCK UP, ATTENTION-MONGER AWKWARD SPEAKER OF MALAY LANGUAGE WITH OVER-DONE HAND GESTURE. AND DON’T REPEAT YOUR NAME SO MANY TIMES, DICK.
Nice Tekun batik shirt you got there. Are you sure Hafiz the YDP MPD Tekun is happy for you campaigning as an Indies/Pro-M?
Now, the general constituencies candidates.
Stop spewing saliva all over and get real. Saw you were obviously nervous there until the Aspirasi-tard beside me quipped that you drank so many cup of water. Don’t pee yourself when the animal taunt you!
Stop acting like some people’s hero especially when you can’t even speak a proper sentence in BM. You are just fuelling the role as a stereotypical Chinese that don’t know how to speak proper Malay.
Nice glove you got there, Aishah. Eloquent speaker…just like being in syarahan complete with sweet smile and chest busting gesture lol. Good luck being independent, little girl.
Bazilah. Search term not available. Do you mean: Basil LAH?
Abel. Well I hope you are ABLE to deal with Tony Fernandes regarding cheap flight for East Malaysians. My CNY tickets that I paid was exorbitant. And regarding water machine, just get the one that was removed right after I enter first year back in DK foyer and I will be satisfied. Good luck in being elected when you are speaking in English cos the uneducated buffoon right beside me are not intelligent enough.
Wafi you self gloating prick. Who cares about you being futsal rep of USM.
Sivaneswari. Tell your campaign manager Rama that the slogan pari-pari Sivaneswari slogan SUCKS. Yes, I have little mercy even when you are my own junior since you had sell your soul to the devils.
Hi, Musliha. Hope didn’t got shock by the buffoon that modified your name into Muslihat (trickery/deceit) jst becos you are a Pro-M tard.
Ahha here’s our very own Abang 1Malaysia, Vincent. Nice songkok and Nehru Suit you got there. I can see you are somewhat struggling with your cue card there towards the end. And the stupid chinese ed chinese Aspirasi fucktard don’t know about Kecek Kelate. And damn my camera didn’t have enough juice to doing a video recording! Next round, Vincent and prepare to laugh!
Non-Descript. Pantun-ing again.
The Aspirasi tard are packing up and picking the garbage before leaving en masse under the lead of Azhar the boy-toy face and Rama-Drama. That’s because you are not one of them. Too bad then.
That’s all, folk! Over and all, my feet is aching, my head hurt due to suffocation and I feel like I am going to hurl being in the middle of a bunch of useless, 3rd world mentality buffoons. Even tudung-clad ladies are hurling personal attack and insults towards those who are not one of them and Bob the never stop extending blob of fat are one of the chief provocateur who just can’t shut up. To made it worse, he is reeking with cigarette smoke, clearly a sign of being a bloody HOBO.
I am not going to cover anything regarding the second day of campaign because it is mostly going to be the same and most importantly, this is my day off. OK, maybe I will still drop by the election rally just to record Vincent’s rally speech in his own word, just for laugh when everything ends.
Epilogue: Phew long post is long!!!!! My hand is shaking like a leaf now just from typing and adding in pictures!
