Biased and Personal Commentary:
Looking through the list of motions scheduled to be tabled this Saturday while connecting to general level of maturity and intellect of university student today will give you a general idea of things to come and for my money, I am expecting it to be at least 75% turgid dross which offer little insights and littered with inane chatter, some random bloke cracking jokes and another random bloke thumping the table. Some of the motions listed here has echoes of certain issues that has been raised in the past three sessions like broken record. Unsolved issues or lack of critical complaints or the Motions Committee jumping the shark by going for safer things to be discussed? Who knows except those people sitting in the chamber. We plebs doesn't deserve to know more. No need to obtain the full documents listing all the justification of each motions, all we need to know is the title and we form opinion from there.)
Coming back to broken record, departmental inefficiency is back (last time it was Ko-K in Campusonline, now is Bendahari), SUKAD/TOT/sports is back (as someone living in sedentary lifestyle and internet addiction, I just can't give a fuck for sports.), compulsory religious education for Muslim is back (I swear similar topic appear in at least two previous sessions as if the Islamic Studies Department in School of Humanities as well as the new student with so many more new University common paper are not strained enough. Then again, love for god is limitless so we shouldn't complaint, right?
Next up: token issues. Besides the token general issues occurring in reality that the chamber pretends to give a toss about (The Lynas issues. More on that later.) as well as another token motions for the long neglected grievance of branch campus (Medical Campus' Cafeteria. Being a token branch campus issue that they included pretending they actually care about the boffins in medical and engineering campus, it can only be expected as lightweight.). Interesting enough for this time however, issues related to postgraduate finally had its own token appearance in this coming session and again being a token lightweight entry that those undergrads in the chamber pretend to give a toss about, it's about application for MyBrain15. I wonder who's the postgrad who has bothered to submit it. Then again, his effort trying to bring the plight of postgrads might just end up in vain because virtually no one in the chamber, full voting members or observers are postgrads(correct me if I am wrong however though my bet was zero representation of postgrads in the chamber) hence people that will be debating on it are undergrads will have no inkling whatsoever about MyBrain15 and might not even want to venture further into postgraduate studies. We can only hinges any hope of reasonable discussion about this on those few prospective postgrads if there are any but definitely no guarantee. Addendum: Dissatisfaction about token motions for postgraduate can easily be summed up by this anecdote over Parlimen Mahasiswa page about the 100% rise of tuition fees for postgraduate right HERE. No one submitted or jumping the shark?
Coming to Lynas: here's an infographic for our generation of attention deficit, keyboard warrior, slacktivist, iPad twiddling, Starbucks drinking youth because we're just that regressed and couldn't read a paragraph that has more than three sentence of words. Here's Atomic Energy Licensing Board in which they have a useful corner on the right side devoted to Lynas. Despite my little hope that any discussion that will be going on in the chamber about this over-discussed issues could at least get some science-y bits and facts right hopefully with some useful input from actual nuclear physics major (doubt it they're in the hall though. Too niche of a field.) say, the plant they're building over Gebeng is Rare Earth Processing Plant, rare earth mineral itself is not dangerous because it's just soil and rock BUT the waste from the extraction which contain residue contaminants such as Thorium is indeed radioactive etc etc. Meanwhile, I really no one actually dare to derail the discussion by saying: "this is just Pakatan's conspiracy la" or "Actually they're a few processing plants in Selangor as well. Why no action by PR people?" or "why only make a fuss now?" ala Parpukari that shithead with rubbish blog layout containing filth. This is a genuine issue (not just environmental but also economical...especially considering 12 year tax break for the plant. How many million are we going to miss out?) and I want to see it to be fleshed out properly. Then again, looking at the time constraint and the very nature of such chamber consisting of plebs with little or no insights and actual knowledge talking about issues that touch niche field of science, it will be no surprise that it will not be fleshed out thoroughly, skimming on mere surface barely touching contents with huge risk of going off tangent.
In case your the like who think this sham of a student representation are a wonder of times, fuming at my lengthy complaint and you actually feel like telling me off by saying statements like "if you're so dissatisfied, why don't sent it a motion bla bla bla" (a la that wanker of a speaker that dismissed every naysayers like me off by dubbing the moniker "empty can" and no further explanation and rapprochement after that. What a arrogant toff.), this is WHY. Maimed, mutilated and butchered. Why should I let my work presented by someone else anyone knowing that people in general will fuck up? And yes, I still haven't gotten over it because I am a cunt and you too.
Here you go. Hope anyone of you who bothered to read this in its entirely may actually get something after filtering all the coarse language. Then again, I doubt you would read this in its entirety hence missing out this sentence.
Epilogue: Oh crap it's the third week of March. *repeats whatever line I said before about self*
