EXTREMELY LONG POST!!! Have some patience in reading YA!!!
As the examiner wishes us a good holiday and safe journey home, this signifies the end of first semester of 07/08 session...Finally I am done with the very first semester of my university life. Another milestone in my life that worth remembered!!! But amidst the visible happiness, a looming cloud of uncertainties still lingers pretty much like the rain cloud around Penang yesterday...
The day starts like any other typical morning (wake up, brush teeth, online!! breakfast) except the fact 1) that there is an exam in the evening and this is so gonna be the final exam 2)i need to send my box of stuff to the store room...After flipping through the notes a few times, i realised last minute study only help marginally and can be seen as an futile effort from the horrible fate of failing exam...Then about 11 something, Avinesh message me to help him with the luggage. He went home yesterday since his exam finish two days before...so jealous lar!!!!! But then during lunchtime , he mentioned that some course finished their exam on the 7th (WTF). He buy me two cups of drink as thank you for helping him carries his luggage down while waiting Lydia (ano chikoi yatsu!!!) come and pick him up to Sg Nibong bus terminal. After sending away with farewell, I went back to my room to prepare for the worse...
At about 2pm, I depart from my room to the exam hall of freezing doom(yes its at DUP again). As i passed through the cafe, i saw my coursemate having her lunch. Chit-chating especially post exam plan(She goin to Genting!! sheesh) and which dictionary that i should use for this exam. Reaching there and realize that we are going to share the exam hall with 4 other papers!! Wow that a lot of ppl!! Saw the JitSin-ner Trio sitting for their own exam(Chia Haw, WenCung and Seng Chiew...did i mention these trio look cute together!!! Hope own all of them at one go and make it my harem jkjk!!!) at the same hall as me. As the moment came, a few coursemate of my mine who take Japanese exclaimed: Shinemasu!!!! (Gonna die!!!!!)
The shock cames when i look through the question, and this is the detail for each of it:
Part A Two question compulsory.
1st: History of Tranlation: similarities if translation method mentioned by Dolet and Tytler.
Pejabat Karang Mengarang and their roles in the development of Translation field in Malaysia.
Explain with proper example the concept of Free Translation.
Commentary: the first is the hardest!!!!! I totally didn't remember any theories by Tytler, marginal knowledge of Pejabat Karang-Mengarang and a too general question about free translation. DEATH.
2nd: Translation method by Vinay and Darbelnet and application of it.(in other word, translation question)
commentary: Did memorized the theories, i think i did appropriately for the translation question i think.(btw what is Chaparerra? It is suppose to be something worn by the cowboy but what? and whats is the western equivalent of Serampang dua mata?) Really hope i can get the most mark from here....
Part B four question choose two.(my choice: 5 and 6)
5th: Responsibility as a Translator and the action that should be taken while translating taboo, sensitive text. Another one is commentary on hilarious authentic translation(Drop your pants ROFLMAO) and provide a better, more natural and acceptable translation.
commentary: Very blur on the first part, feels like writing a Malay essay more than answering question. 2nd part is ok though but didn't exactly what did the examiner wants anyway so just do it!!!!
6th: Discourse: choosing one between two translated excerpt of Al-Quran mentioned in Saddam Hussein's letter to his people to be used in a political speech and discuss your choice with relation to its register, field, tenor and discourse.(one is done by Free Arab voice, other one is by The Guardian UK my choice is the first.) Second part is translates an invitation card to an organization anniversary dinner and discuss the translation.
commentary: i dunno why i choose this question even though i didn't study much about discourse. Simply crapping all the way trying to make that one page look full. Second part translating is easy, hard on explaination. CRAPPING again!!!!
What ahout 3 and 4 then?
3rd: Reiss and typology in functionalism: importance of it. Comparison between documentary and instrumantal translation with proper examples.
4th: Equivalence. translating an excerpt from Alice in wonderland and discuss problems that should be paid attention of.
THESE TWO ARE THE DEATH SO I DIDN'T DO IT!!!
Despite all these gloom and doom situation, we are all eager to taste the scent of freedom as soon as the chief examiner is doing her announcement. We all jump out from our seat but then settled down again only(because she didn't announce anything yet) to hear good wishes from her because we are the very last batch of student staying back...Right after that, a few of us rushed to Sg Dua to have KFC for my group/Mcdonald for another batch enjoying our well deserved dinner!!!! Funs ensues, talking(about Kuching food being the better one than Penang ROFL) picture taking and even video taking by San Jing(i made my confession to kolo mee ROFLMAO)
Later drop by at Tianxia mangastore(to discover the world of manga, they linger at Shoujo manga section LOL) with San Jing giving me Shoujo terminology trivia(Goshyujinsama!!!! Oujisama!!!!!). Being an avid animanga fangirl, she also HAPPEN to read BL manga (YESS!!!! FINALLY SOMEONE WHO APPRECIATE THE BEAUTY OF BL/YAOI!!!!! WOOT!!!!) because of their beautifully drawn males. I decided to share with her the best of my collection including Bukiyou na Silent drama CD!!!! In exchange I wanna have Gakuen Heaven anime series!!!!! That is sure fun, the exchange between a fangirl and a fanboys ROTFL!!!!
This is the end of the post and probably the last post for now in Penang. I will be goin home tomorrow, evening flight 5.40pm flight from Penang, reaching home by 8.00 i think. Hope my friend will pick me up at the airport *crosses fingers* But of course, i will keep all of you update when I am home for one or two weeks so please look forward for it!!!!!!!!
