Yasmin Ahmad [July 1, 1958- July 25, 2009]
Al-Fatihah. Deepest condolences to her family and friends and anyone who works with her before at any point of her life. Let us mourn together the loss of a bright, talented and Malaysian mind. May her rest in peace.
As a tribute, lets go through the best of Yasmin Ahmad throughout the years.
She builds up her career and gained prominence with her various works in the advertising and had always been her forte throughout the years. Her works in the form of advert had graced Malaysian television through the years, touching every Malaysian's heart and soul.In fact, even her work is commissioned overseas for example over Selat Tebrau aka Singapore. Take a look.
Her venture into film-directing are considerably quite young but every single work of hers manage to stirs up people's attention and emotion, sometimes to the point of being banned by government for public showing. Nevertheless, all of her work achieved significant recognition abroad, latest being Berlin International Film Festival.
Just an anecdote: The movie premiere for Talentine was done in USM and she did came as well. Now with her passing, I am regretting that I didn't manage to catch a least a glance of her as well as her movie during the movie premiere. Shamefully to say, I haven't not even watch any of her movie despite hearing how good it is from everyone else. Guess it's time to start now and appreciate her work.
Kak Yasmin, you will be sorely missed.
