Mid-Sem Break Excursion (Part G!)

Prologue: ONOZ So many thing undone...and my blog is pretty deserted...

Since Miss KimiChong already done her take on our excursion, guess its my turn for my own take for this excursion. And since my Chong had already done her take in word form, my take will be mostly pictorial with own extra commentary and bits added from time to time. So here goes massive pic spam! And it's only one part!

Part I: This series corresponds to KimiChong's entry, 2nd paragraph.

9pm: Waiting for Lawrence's parent's car to pick me and ChiaMin up to Sungai Nibong.

My totally overloaded bag. I still wonder what's the need for bringing so many clothes along.

Actually, the bus departs from Sungai Nibong Mobil Petrol Station. For some reason, the Genting-Penang Bus was not allowed to embark from Sungai Nibong Terminal.

My butterscotch bread. Lovin it after Azira spare one for me during the first day of PPA-12 as alas perut.

Our pile of bags~~~ and Butterscotch as cameo.

Obligatory self-taking group pic.

...and OFF we go~~~

...zipping through Penang Bridge...

and went passed Autocity Juru. Neon blur~~~

...and still quite semangat!

...while me looking pretty sullen.

Plus Toll Plaza at Taiping exit. Went over there to pick a couple more passenger.

Reached some random 24-hours reststop at Tanjung Malim. 24 hours Chicken Rice stall!

While waiting, more pic taking ensues. Kimi and Ah Bui.

The girls...

and Lawrence...

...and me, looking quite deranged.

Swervy climb up Genting...

...and there we are, reaching the Genting Bus Terminal at 3 am in the morning, 2 hour (!) ahead of the schedule! Blurry photo due to shaky hand which in turn due to Chilly morning air.

Travelling up the escalator connection the bus terminal and First World Hotel.

...keeps on going along the passageway...

and Welcome to First World Hotel.

...we bunch of refugees didn't check into a room cos it wasn't worth it anyway since we are planning Genting as an one day excursion only.

More shameless self camwhore cos there's too little pic of my own. Ohh about the PPMS jacket, that's the closest thing that I have to jacket which function is to shield my body from cold. lol.

Auto check in machine. First time seeing this and great for handling huge crowds.

Scaled miniature model of Genting Highland. The whole mountain top belongs to Genting Group!

After settling our excess luggage at the hotel Porter service (good tip for everyone: it's FREE!)

Yet another obligatory group pic with the Genting logo.

But still we are pretty tired arriving at 3am in the morning so we need to find a place to replenish our energy. We decided that we will go to the Casino since that's the only place that opens 24/7 and offer free coffee and tea! So let's go please.

-Casino picture not available-

It was my first experience entering a casino (and I am about 2 weeks before legal age!) but actually I wasn't very thrilled anyway (maybe because that compared to the older Casino at Genting Hotel, the Starworld Casino at First World is totally geared for...the masses. So not exclusive.) other than the free flow coffee and tea. My first attempt to enter the casino was cockblocked at the entrance cos the guard managed to flag me down and demanded my IC. Busted. (but I chatted for a moment with the guard though. lol. He ask me to come back after Merdeka Day.) And then Lawrence called me and asked me to go in through another entrance. This time we walk quickly enough with no eye contact with the guard. SUCCESS. And here I am in the casino where the money and emotion flies~~~ So we grabbed our quick fix of coffee and tea before moving on and hang around the casino. Seriously even at 4am in the morning, the place is still packed! But somehow for me, the whole area is quite suffocating for me because the whole place is reeking in cigarette smoke (Lawrence said we hanged around at the smoking section tho) and there are so many...weird uncles like that one drunk uncle who came and lingered around SheiHan, YenPheng and me when SheiHan and YenPheng is trying out their luck with Slot Machine. SheiHan got lucky by winning...RM 6 from her original bet of RM10. After hangin around, we went out from the casino to find places we can settle down while waiting Genting comes to life (other than casino).

-to be continued with more pictures...and it's not even half of YenPheng's take in 2nd paragraph!-

Yeah, I look pretty tulan went I am lack of sleep/tired.

Ah Bui: "Smile a bit lah! Why look so tulan?" So I smiled a bit.

SheiHan, complete with mask to prevent A(H1N1).

Lee Ah Bui, posing.

Lawrence and YenPheng. YenPheng's parka is quite...menyerlah. lolx.

ChiaMin, looking sleepy.

We bunch of refugees went back to the bus stop again because we have nowhere else to go around 5am in the morning and we need to check what time the bus counter open and to check the bus ticket price of going down to KL.

Because the counter only opens by 8am in the morning, we head back again into First World Plaza to find a place to settle down and breakfast.

The feeling of walking in a deserted theme park is pretty eerie by adding in the chilly highland air. But even if it is only 5am++ in the morning, a couple of food outlet is actually open just to cater out types of people. So we settle down at some noodle/rice outlet place thingy which I can't recall the exact name. Phew, let fill in our empty stomach before we all go all out for fun! Oh btw, the ordering system of that shop is quite unique that we need to check out the menu on the wall outside, grab a small wood plate/stick (similar to the doctor type stick thingy) which bear the number of the food you wanted and head for the cashier for speedy process. But since that it's only 5am in the morning, I guess there's not much of a point of using it except for novelty...

My cup of hot tea. Just right to counter the chilly air and make you warm inside out!

Wantan mee that YenPheng and SheiHan ordered together to share. Lawrence ordered Wantan mee as well but the rest of us were attracted by the small pot rice thingy. So here's a series of photo of potted rice thingy.

This is what I ordered, Green Curry Rice. lol I know curry as breakfast is kinda weird. I can't exactly remember who ordered what so the rest will be left unnamed. Go identify it yourself, peepz!

Advertisement promoting...urm...extra service in the male toilet. In fact, any male toilet that I visited have these kind of advertisement. This contain multiple level of fails from vandalism to prostitution to failure of law enforcement. So, whoever wants to have barely legal schoolgirl/bombshell to provide service such as escort and massage, call at your own risk.

This pic was taken around 7am++ from the side window right beside Starbucks First World Hotel. Look at the sea of cloud surrounding the mountain~~~

This was taken from the 10th floor of First World Hotel when we go up to the room part to refill our water bottle cos there're water machines provided along the corridor. The carpet of clouds sweeping down the hill~~~ And ohh, the road behind there is either auxiliary road or older road of Genting. Wonder where it leads to. This view is not without some hideous part though cos there is a abandonded construction sight right below us and over the other side, yet another abandoned building. Guess it wasn't all peachy all the time for business and developers in Genting.

After refilling our water bottles, all of us went back to the bus terminal again to buy bus tickets down to KL only to discover that 1) there is only 2 bus company that connect Genting Highland and KL direct and 2) We intended to disembark at KL Sentral but one bus company didn't go there while another only go there from peak at night. We planned to go down to KL in the evening so the only choice we got is to go down to cable car station at the foothill of genting and buy our bus ticket from there cos there are more choices there. So, me and YenPheng carries the mission of buying the bus tickets at the foothill cable car station.

A shot at the cable car station while waiting in line. There are so many people going down instead of people coming up. Maybe it's because of checkout time for these people.

Luckily the service was pretty fast and the line dissipates in no time and soon we are on our way descending from Genting Highland!

A shot at the service aparment at Genting Highland while the gondola glides down...

Should be around halfway...

...and here we are, the cable car station at the foothill. We quickly went down to the bus waiting area, bought ourselves the 5:30 pm bus ticket departing from here to KL Sentral and headback up again...

To the heaven we go~~~

Ohh I can see Genting from here.

OK, heaven in sight and through the mist! And after 30 minutes of back and fro, we are back at Genting again and ready to meet up with the rest waiting up there and conquer the outdoor theme park!

And not too long, we are in the outdoor theme park! A shot at the iconic Genting Hotel and environs.

Another shot of the surrounding with the dizzying height of Space Shot insight.

...and on top of the hill is the main attraction of the outdoor theme park: The Corkscrew.

Our first ride: The Cyclone which happens to be the very first roller-coaster in Genting Highland.

And that's Lawrence, MingWei and YenPheng came back after one round. The roller-coaster was fast but not scary and its turn compared to other roller-coaster around here, is quite mild.

Next game: The Spinner. Me and Lawrence stayed out as photographer while the 4 girls took the ride. Posing before The Spinner...spins. I stayed out because I am scared of height and sitting in a seemingly small and flimsy chair while the whole things spins makes me scared that I will fly off along with the chair. So, no no for me.

Look at all the dazzling colours. Psychodelic.

...and that's the girl flying.

Next: The Flying Dragon (not sure that I get the name right but nevermind...) We rode this for 3 times because there is no line waiting at all and all of us wanna try out the front row and the last row just for the thrill. This is is pretty tame as well so all of us went on.

A shot at the First World Hotel from the lake. The round boat thing is the bumper boat while the other one at the other side is the typical paddleboat.

We settled for a more relaxing ride of paddle boat...or so I thought. My leg is totally sore after so much paddling around the lake and chasing after ChiaMin and SheiHan.

Camwhore on the boat.

ChiaMin and SheiHan right behind.

The Ghost House. Another group photo...

...and self-camwhore. The Ghosthouse was a total disappointment. It's not even scary!

Parrots at the picture taking booth.

And there is one really huge bear as the grand prize at the typical fairground game booth of ring-throwing. We wasted about RM 10 in trying but at least got picture taken with it. Here's SheiHan and YenPheng...

Me and MinWei...

...and Lawrence.

A Real London Routemaster turned Bistro. Looks like pretty worn out though.

Next: Pirate ship. Actually it was the first ride that we intend to do but when we just came in to the theme park, it was under scheduled check so we moved on to other rides before coming back again for it. Me, YenPheng, MinWei and SheiHan went on the first round but we all got stuck to not exactly fun seat which is around the center row. But even though the swing was not violent at all at the middle row, it is still good enough to make me feel woozy. So I stayed out for the 2nd round and stayed back with ChiaMin and Lawrence...

...while Ah Bui and...

SheiHan and YenPheng goes on...

Whee~~~~

Next: Space Shot. Look at the dizzying height! And that's why I didn't go on for the ride. But ChiaMin and SheiHan and MingWei did.

AAaaahhh~~~~

The highlight of the theme park: Corkscrew. This one is so on for me. SheiHan, Ah Bui, Me and ChiaMin go on for this ride. Thrilling!

...and group photo is a must!

A shot at the flower using macro.

AhBui and ChiaMin XP~~~

The floating log ride thingy making a huge splash. Whoever that wants to take this ride and getting themself wet in chilly highland air is obviously crazy hence we didn't take this ride. We pretty went all the thrill ride in the park already and our stomach is giving us some obvious signal to take a rest already so we marched back into First World Plaza and took one last ride: The Mine Train (No pic for this one because I was in the ride as well so cannot take picture.) before heading over to lunch.

And so we settle for lunch at KFC. The presentation of this meal is totally subpar compared to KFC down at the ground but the price is more expensive! This is my colonel Chicken Rice that I ordered.

And this is the snack plate that AhBui ordered. Another reason for it to be expensive is because that the set include wedges.

By the time all of us had our lunch, we were all getting a shut eye because of exhaustion. This is ChiaMin getting a shut eye.

This is YenPheng getting a shut eye...

Me almost getting a shut eye...

LeeAhBui not getting a shut eye but instead of camwhoring...

Lawrence shaking his palm.

It was around 2 hours before 5:30 so we loitered around doing nothing. In the end, AhBui, Lawrence and SheiHan went back to Casino again to try their luck while me, YenPheng and ChiaMin went to reclaim our bag at the porter service and...wait at First World Hotel's lobby. I managed to grab my laptop and online for a while at Starbucks @ First World and notify my location in Facebook and Plurk. Soon, all of us gathered back at the same place we started in Genting, grabbed our bag and started the long march towards the Cable Car Station. Dang, the trip up the multiple escalator was tiring! Luckily the line going downhill at the cable car station was not long and soon all of us boarded the cable car.

...and of we go!!! Descending from heaven....

...into the cloud...

While all of us are descending from heaven, there are people ascending to heaven. Good bye Genting and hope all of you enjoy yourself up there~~

Obligatory group photo before heading down to KL and call it a day. First take: ahh, not working lar. Tight spaces in cable car.

Try no:2. Arrgh, not everyone is in again. Where's Lawrence?

So in the end, we decided to take picture by 3. 3 of us in the front row...

and 3 of them at the back row. lol ChiaMin didn't turn around.

Our next destination before settling down: KL Sentral. Taken at the Cable Car Station at the foothill.

The bus is ready to leave...good bye Genting...

...and we embark on another journey again.

Tried to do a little reading but I stayed with this page even until the bus ride ends. Study FAIL.

Going down from Genting passing through Gohtong Jaya...

Swerving through the curve and incline...

...and here we are at Lebuhraya Karak. Karak Highway is quite impressive for me because the highway cuts through Titiwangsa Range and completes with tunnel and steep incline and crossing through high valley such as this one.

...but it was quite a short journey as we passed through the toll plaza with signs of urban sprawl mushrooming along side the highway...

...and welcome to KL. Evening rush hour is just starting.

Escalator connecting the bus disembarkation area to the building. The bus disembarkation area is located under KL Sentral and it was so stuffy filled with exhaust fumes. Definitely not a good start for any prospect travellers.

We entered the building only to encounter MORE people going everywhere. Rush hour traffic is swinging up and the aircon seems to be not much working at all with all the people around. Still feeling quite stuffy.

We will be staying over at YenPheng's home at Shah Alam so the mode of public transport to take is of course KTM Komuter.

Ah Bui, feeling a little irritated by the bustling people. Yeah, I believe everyone do.

As soon as we reached the platform, we were all immediately overwhelmed by the sheer amount of commuter waiting to go back to their home. All this added with the lacking of air conditioning (the only form of electrical appliances providing some form of air circulation is the fan. WTF) create a really stuffy environment and I was literally suffocating, gasping for fresh air.

And as soon as the train pulled into the terminal, everyone started to jostle towards any door teetering close to the platform edge and disregarding the fact that there are people that wants to disembark from the train. The line on the floor that meant to regulate the human traffic was totally useless in rush hour and the train conductior/attendant over the platform had a hardtime controlling the crowd as well. The jostling is even worse when the older KTM train stock because their doors are only one side and so much narrower. We experienced it first hand and our two attempts of boarding the train was thwarted by the jostling commuter. There is one point that one aunty was like shouting and beating at the door due to frustation not getting on the train.

The Komuter heading to Seremban. Look at the Sardin can and the commuters were basically shoulder to shoulder to the point of plastering at the door.

...and so we waited. And waited. And waited. Missing at least five trains due to jostling and waited from 6:30pm to 8:30pm.

Finally at 8:30pm, we got on the train because the jostling was less violent compared to the peak rush hour. It is still pretty much shoulder-to-shoulder ride from there and I got lucky cos I spotted a seat as I entered the train. The rest however, need to stand for the rest of their journey. Pictured here is ChiaMin, SheiHan and Lawrence. We reached ShahAlam station around 9pm ++ and was picked up by YenPheng's dad in Rusa van. We went for dinner at a foodcourt which I forgot the name (but one this that I can observe is that it was mostly manned by foreign worker especially Thai or Burmese) before we head over to YenPheng's house at Kota Kemuning, a relatively new housing estate at ShahAlam. YenPheng's house was very clean and comfortable and I bunked at YenPheng's younger bro's room while the girls bunk at the room next to us. One feature which I think quite novel though is that the two small room shared on bathroom...and both room have direct access to it. So if anyone want to used the bathroom, they need to lock both side from inside lolx! We settled down our bag and took our bath before crash ourselves to bed to catch some snooze in preparation for the next day's plan...

-Aaaaaaaannnnnnddd that's all for Part G of midsem break excursion!!! Stay tuned for the next part - PART S!!-

Preview: The bag which I packed for the next day's plan. Why am I bringing so much stuff again? Packing fail.

Epilogue: I am now anticipating for an very important moment of my life. Will be blogging about it too as the clock strikes...
