Alt title: Campus Ramadhan Survival Log the (sort of luxurious) Finale.
Like any financially conscious, penny-pinching miser of a Malaysian, I am weak for the promotion despite the fact that it's a trap to lure consumer to spend more. Never mind about that though because after practicing austerity measures for so long, it's alright to have some luxury from time to time for your own tummy and taste bud. With Ramadhan ended, I think it's alright to wrap up the Campus Ramadhan Survival Log too. So here we go, pic spam of food and senseless spending for the sake to luxury on a budget ahead!
-21 August, Sunday-
GCB has made a return to McDonald and for this Ramadhan month only, it's included in McValue Meal and they have their McValue meal promo price at late evening instead or lunch just for rake it the breaking fast market. As it was a Sunday with no cafe operating in campus, a sudden urge that struck had brought me back to McDonald again for dinner, this time going for DOUBLE GCB on a whim.
| I opted for medium size meal these days because I always feel uncomfortably bloated after having a lunch meal. It's a fact that it's usually the fries and soda that makes one full in fast food, not the actual burger itself plus I can always refill the coke if I want more at McDonald. Pricetag: RM15.85 (with tax) |
| What made this box of GCB different? It's the "Double" tag there of course! |
| Just look at the glistening, mouth watering double GCB patties. Time to tug in and chow down! OMNOMNOM. |
As soon as I reached back to my room though, I had this odd feeling of loneliness in my gut. Maybe it does look kinda sad having resort to McDonald to berbuka ALONE while everybody else is having someone to spent time with them. I could have eat better food. I could have spent time with friend. Instead, there I was sitting alone at McDonald, chowing away Double GCB. *burp* *sigh*
-Thrice on Manhattan Fish Market Pasta Promo!-
| On the last week of August, Manhattan Fish Market had this Pasta Promo in which you can print out this coupon and obtain 50% off any pasta by presenting it upon order. Lusting for better food after austerity measure for so long, it's only natural for me to jump on this promotion and I accidentally photocopied a lilbit too much with spurs me with further desire to have more! Oddly though, they put this promotion from 11am-6pm which is from brunch to early dinner...an hour + before the Ramadhan fast actually end thus basically eliminating any Muslim market for this promotion. As usual for whiny Malaysian, some RAGE ensued on MFM Malaysia's wall. Doesn't bother me though because this promotion works exactly right for me! *Hedonist* |
| 23/8 (Tuesday): Lunch with TailouWong and immediately I ordered the most expensive choice from their offer: Garlic Herb Chicken Pasta. (Promotion RM10.95 without tax). Add on bottomless soft drink for RM4...which I kinda regret later for not refilling. Meanwhile, learned about uncertainties working in private sector from TailouWong. *sigh* Still can't imagine how's my working life going to be a few years down the road. Will I even be able to get a job and fit into the cruel reality of working life full of drama, pressure and backstabbing? |
| 27 August (Saturday): As usual for weekend with no operating cafe in campus, I dine out. Extra photocopied coupon has enticed me back to MFM again. This time, add on soup of the day instead while having free plain water for drink instead. The mushroom soup is kinda runny though. |
| Order of the day: Creamy seafood pasta. (Promotion price RM9.95 without tax). Calamari rings and fish fillets. |
| 29 August (Monday): With Ramadhan and MFM Pasta promo coming to an end, I went back for lunch for one last time, this time with no add on and free plain water. Order of the day: Spaghetti in the sea with scallops and prawns cooked in tomato-based sauce. (Promo RM10.45 without tax). Used fork to dig out the annoying adhesive bit of muscle on the scallop. |
I wonder will there be more promotion over Manhattan Fish Market in the future.
-Oh, Daddy Mee!-
Daddy Mee as I remember started around late nineties riding the wave of "Buy Malaysian Good" campaign. During its early days, they ran those noodle truck campaign here and there and my primary school actually hosted their promo truck once. I remember because of the novelty of having three different way of enjoying your packet of noodle which is as soup noodle, dried noodle (with reduced seasoning) and as noodle snack (dried form as it is!). The novelty kinda wane out because of the stiff market competition for more variety. When I dropped by Jusco last week though (after MFM lunch for a lil grocery shopping), Daddy Mee catches my eyes again, this time for a different reason:
| Buy 1 Pack free 1 Pack promotion exclusively by Jusco! Its original one pack price was RM4.80 which is more expensive than my usual fare of Cintan Mee BUT with this promotion, it's actually cheaper than buying two pack of Cintan Mee. With austerity measure in mind, I had to buy it. 15 packet of noodle can last week approximately two weeks worth of dinner. In fact, the value is so tempting, I bought another Buy 1 Free 1 Pack again (on my second MFM trip) bumping the number of packets to 30 in total. This will last me roughly a month! |
| Its portion is quick sizable too compared to other brand of instant noodle. This is me trying out the dried version. I never really followed its instruction of reducing the seasoning because I don't know how to settle the extra seasoning left if I follow the instruction. Kinda turn the MSG up a notch a lil but nevermind about that. |
| This is the soup noodle version. |
The flavouring is not exactly outstanding especially when compared with other more mainstream brand like Maggi but otherwise doesn't really matter much for me though because I've made a bargain and I can survive another month in austerity measure. Hopefully my tastebud won't get bored with the repetitive taste though. I think I still have some of the other flavours of Cintan Mee around...
Epilogue: 31 Ogos: Satu tarikh keramat dalam hidupku. Of all the things that I can blog though (such as two more backlogs and actual thoughtful content), I blogged about what I ate. Keeping the readership with interesting content FAIL. Meanwhile...what does it mean to me, the day of 31 August. Expect more blogpost in days to come!
